Learning Outcome 5 and 6

In reviewing the essays I have written throughout the semester in English 110 I would say the essay that best demonstrates the correct usage of MLA format, including citations is my ‘Essay on Metaphors in Metaphors‘. As shown in my essay I stuck very closely with the MLA requirements including format guidelines such as heading page numbers, correct font and text size, etc. In addition to this, this essay demonstrates one of the most important aspects of the MLA guidelines; MLA in-text and bibliography citations. For an essay containing the works and ideas of other authors to be considered free of plagiarism, it is important that the work of other authors is clearly and correctly cited. In addition to preventing plagiarism, citations also provide the reader with the information needed to explore the sources you’ve utilized to both ensure your credibility and to be able to do their own research using the sources you’ve introduced. Before taking English 110, I was always intimidated by MLA guidelines and especially MLA citations and bibliographies because It seemed like too much work and I was not yet confident of my ability to complete it correctly. Now, however, I feel very well practiced in these skills and are proud to name my ‘Essay on Metaphors’ as an example of my progress with MLA formatting and citing.
