Barclay Paragraph:

Though the idea has been highly disputed over time, many have proposed the idea that science and art may be one and the same, or at the very least, should be seen as working with one another. Jonah Lehrer, author of “The Future of science… is art?” is one to argue this possibility. He states: “But before we can unravel these mysteries, our sciences must get past their present limitations. How can we make this happen? My answer is simple: Science needs the arts.” According to Lehrer, it’s possible that key points or explanations for many of science’s greatest mysteries lie within the world of art. And, that the two concepts should be seen universally as connected ideas. Supporting the same mindset is cellist and songwriter Yo-Yo Ma. Yo-Yo Ma, like Lehrer, also argues that the connection between science and art should be strengthened. He even argues that more artistic approaches to learning should be provided in public schools. Ma believes that the final goal in all of this should be an equilibrium between both approaches. He states that without this equalibrium we could be headed for doomsday without even knowing it. As both authors argue for a strengthened connection to be made between science and art, Lehrer encourages the connection for the sake of deeper scientific discoveries while Yo-Yo Ma uses possible consequences of division between the two worlds to push his argument further.

TREAC Paragraph:

There as been a discrepancy lately about whether or not art should play a larger role in the world of science. Yo-Yo Ma, cellist and songwriter not only argues this but goes as far as to propose that art should play more of a role in the public school system and claims that if we were to continue to alienate art in the world of science that we would be facing major consequences. In fact, he states: we could be headed for doomsday without even knowing it. Yo-Yo Ma proposes that it is, at the very least, an equilibrium between the two worlds that we are lacking and that the creation of such equilibrium would solve the discrepancy and allow for major advances to be made in the world of science.
