Yo-Yo Ma, Chinese-American cellist claims that as important as math and science is in the world of education, we are in dire need of adding the “empathetic reasoning of the arts” to the educations system. People sharing his opinion support the idea of art-related subjects holding an equal weight of importance in curriculums, off of the belief that, not only are these subjects important by themselves but that the values behind the arts allow for creative innovation beneficial to performance in standard STEM programs. However, some might say that integrating the arts into STEM would merely be a distraction, not nearly universally beneficial enough for the addition to be considered. Some may also argue that the arts are just too different than math and sciences for them to have any beneficial affiliation
